This freezing (literally) weather gives us another opportunity to experience - like it or not - part of God's creation.Yes, I'm sure the majority of us would rather be simply comfortable outside. Then there are part of us who would rather be relaxing beach-side. And then there are people who actually enjoy the colder weather.
But even for them, this might be a little crazy.
In any case, it IS winter in North America, and it gets cold. True, not like this all the time, but it should help us appreciate the "normal" temperatures of the winter season.
And, if you know of Dante's version of Hell, you're experiencing just a foretaste of it now.
Plus, it gives us an opportunity to look into the humor of God: For us in the Pittsburgh area, He's messing with our minds going, "Okay, I'm going to freeze them out Monday and Tuesday, and by Friday and Saturday have them live with temperatures in the 40's and 50's." God's humor is unique, and we're so wrapped up in ourselves that we miss it completely.
But, instead of complaining about how cold it is, let's remember the lines from the Canticle of Daniel (Daniel 3:67-70):
Cold and chill, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt him above all forever.
Dew and rain, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt him above all forever.
Frost and chill, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt him above all forever.
Hoarfrost and snow, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt him above all forever.
In all things we need to give praise to the One from whom all good things come. Yes, this is not the perfect day outside, although the sun is making it a little better to look at. But the Lord has blessed us with another day here on Earth; He has blessed us with a day that most of us would rather trade in for another, but this day should help us appreciate those more perfect days just a little more.
In all things, and in every way, give thanks.
And don't be surprised that it's cold in winter in North America.
Just look at this day as another reason to enjoy that summer vacation. (Let the countdowns begin . . . !)
Enjoy the journey . . .
